
Overview:
Researchers must demonstrate the project is well-supported by the institution and how the students’ contribution will assist the principal investigator’s capacity to advance their project to positively impact New Brunswick.
By the end of the project, students are expected to gain meaningful research experience that supports their professional development within the province while advancing outcomes of a project.
Leverage:
1:1 match (1-part external money, 1-part ResearchNB money)
Eligibility:
- Applicants must be researchers at one of the eligible research institutions listed in our Award Administration Guidelines.
- To ensure fair funding distribution across the application pool, each principal investigator is restricted to one (1) application submission per competition.
- The Program Manager will conduct an initial eligibility screening. Applications that are determined to not be aligned with ResearchNB’s priority sectors and enabling sectors at this stage may be declined and not proceed to the external review process. See the Award Guidelines for an in-depth workflow and explanation of this process.
Eligible Expenses:
Funds are to be used exclusively for student compensation.
Award Duration and Reporting:
The award is for a maximum of two years, with an interim status report due at the end of the first year and a final status report due three months after the award end date. These reports are to be completed via the application portal.
Awardees are required to submit 1- and 3-year Impact Reports following the Final Status Report.
In accordance with our commitment to continuous improvement, a student experience survey will be collected to better understand students’ perspectives on how the funding enables them to gain valuable research experience and supports their professional growth. In the final report, the principal investigator will be required to provide the name and email address of the students supported by the Student Support Fund to allow the distribution and completion of an anonymous student experience survey after the award end date.
