Overview 

The Champion Awards will recognize outstanding activities, individuals, and research teams in New Brunswick. 

ResearchNB is excited to be presenting three (3) awards this year at the Health Research Symposium 2025: 

  • Research Team Award  

  • Catalyst Award  

  • Mentor Award  

Individuals may nominate others or themselves. Self-nominees require two letters of support, or if someone is nominating another person, only one additional letter of support is required. Nominations will be reviewed by an external review committee and evaluated on the following four (4) criteria: 

  1. Impact on New Brunswick 

  2. Innovation and Creativity 

  3. Collaboration 

  4. Growth




    Timelines
  • Awards nominations: Opening September 2 – October 8

  • External Reviews: October 9 - 29

  • Notifications sent to the Top 3 nominees in each category: November 4 


    Criteria  

CATEGORY 1: Research Team Award 

The Research Team has made remarkable contributions to health research, producing tangible outcomes for healthcare practices and community impact. The Research Team has demonstrated a profound ability to conduct high-impact, innovative research that addresses some of the most pressing health challenges. The Research Team is engaged with other leading institutions, care centers, and industry partners, facilitating a multidisciplinary approach to health research. The Research Team has a track record of providing excellent opportunities for students and highly qualified personnel. The team should consist of a mix of undergraduate students, graduate students, and highly qualified personnel, and will have a proven capacity for handling multiple concurrent projects. The lead PI of the Research Team should be named in the nomination. 

CATEGORY 2: Catalyst Award 

The researcher has demonstrated a passion for making research accessible to a wide audience, including research peers, policymakers, industry professionals, and the public. Their research work findings are disseminated through multiple channels to foster knowledge transfer and innovation. They have utilized various knowledge translation strategies and tools to share research updates and insights with non-academic audiences, making complex topics more accessible to the public. This has helped raise awareness of important research findings and increased engagement with diverse stakeholders. Their research has directly informed policy decisions and contributed to the development of new technologies, products, and processes that have benefited both the economy and society. 

 CATEGORY 3: Mentor Award 

The researcher has played a significant role in mentoring young researchers and fostering the next generation of innovators. By creating a supportive environment that fosters learning, collaboration, and innovation, they have provided opportunities for students, emerging talent and early-career researchers to evolve and reach their potential. They not only contribute to advancing the frontiers of knowledge but also invest deeply and meaningfully in the next generation of researchers, innovators, and leaders. 



Evaluation Criteria 

1. Impact on New Brunswick 

  • Does the nominee demonstrate positive impacts on New Brunswick (individuals, communities, health systems, next generation of researchers, etc.)?
  • Does the nominee demonstrate evidence of tangible outcomes such as improved health outcomes, intellectual property, success stories, etc.? 

2. Innovation and Creativity

  • Does the nominee demonstrate unique approaches to research, mentorship and stakeholder engagement, etc.? 

3. Collaboration 

  • Does the nominee foster collaboration with others (interdisciplinary partnerships, community and stakeholder partnerships, networking opportunities, etc.)? 

4. Growth

  • Does the nominee demonstrate growth and continuous improvement in their research activities (partnership development, reach of their research, professional development, etc.)?
